Peer Support
The Independent Living Movement supports the belief that people with disabilities often are the best source and support for other people with disabilities.
SCRS-IL offers many ongoing peer support activities as well as guidance and support provided by staff to assist consumers in developing, clarifying and achieving their independent living goals.
This can happen through one-on-one assistance or through peer group meetings. Contact SCRS-IL to learn more about the support groups that are currently available at each of our locations
Peer support is a hallmark of the Independent Living Movement and a core service – both in statute and philosophy – of Centers for Independent Living. At SCRS-IL we provide programming that promotes a philosophy of peer support for consumers with diverse backgrounds and disabilities. Through this philosophy, SCRS-IL encourages and promotes the development of peer relationships and peer role models to further advance independence and self-empowerment for all persons with disabilities.
